With the release of the new Gmail in 2018, a very important new function for sending an email appeared – „Unsend”. The feature is enabled by default and you cannot disable it. But you can adjust how often to send an email. Here’s how.

Gmail, Yahoo, and Outlook.com have options to cancel your email, but they only work a few seconds after you click Send.

Popular email services offer cancel sending features, but you only have a few seconds to realize your mistake and hit „Cancel”. Gmail, Outlook.com, and Yahoo Mail have these features that delay sending an email.

In iOS, the setting is enabled by default, you will see the Cancel button, which remains visible for 5 seconds. If you tap the Cancel button you can go back to editing the message.

Setting Gmail email cancellation period on Desktop

In Gmail you can set the cancellation period (5, 10, 20, 30 seconds). On the Gmail.com website, click the gear icon in the right corner, select Settings, scroll down, and click Enable / Cancel Email Sending. Then choose the cancellation period (5, 10, 20, 30 seconds) scroll to the bottom and press save. When you send a message, you’ll see the Cancel button at the top of the window.

Once the feature is set up on desktop, the Cancel / Send settings will also change in the Gmail mobile apps for iOS and Android.

yahoo mail

The Yahoo Mail app on your phone has this feature enabled by default on both iOS and Android. When you send an email, the „Undo” button appears in the bottom right, only for three seconds. On the desktop, Yahoo doesn’t offer the ability to unsend an email.

Outlook.com

On the phone, Microsoft does not offer this feature for either iOS or Android. On desktop, the feature exists. On Outlook.com, click the gear, select „Options,” and then „Undo Send.” Select „Let me cancel messages I’ve sent for:” and choose the interval you want to cancel (5, 10, 15 or 30 seconds). Save the changes.

Webmail (or web-based email) is an email service that can be accessed using a standard web browser. It contrasts with email service accessible through a specialized email client software. Examples of webmail providers are 1&1 IonosAOL Mail, Gmail, GMX Mail, Mailfence, Outlook.com/Hotmail.com, Yahoo! Mail and IceWarp Mail Server. Additionally, many internet service providers (ISP) provide webmail as part of their internet service package. Similarly, some web hosting providers also provide webmail as a part of their hosting package.

ISP providers and hosting companies, typically use webmail software via 3rd party software such as Roundcube or SquirrelMail.

As with any web application, webmail’s main advantage over the use of a desktop email client is the ability to send and receive email anywhere from a web browser. Its main disadvantage is the need to be connected to the Internet while using it.

The first Web Mail implementation was developed at CERN in 1993 by Phillip Hallam-Bake as a test of the HTTP protocol stack, but was not developed further. In the next two years, however, several people produced working webmail applications.
